Lucy Letby, a convicted serial killer, will face a retrial for an outstanding charge of attempting to murder a baby girl. Letby, who was recently sentenced to a whole life order for the murders of seven babies and the attempted murder of six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital, had the jury at Manchester Crown Court unable to reach verdicts on six counts of attempted murder. A provisional trial date has been set for 10 June 2024 at the same court. Letby attended the hearing via video link from HMP New Hall in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, maintaining her innocence on all charges. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has stated that it is seeking a retrial specifically for the case involving Baby K. Jonathan Storer, the chief crown prosecutor, acknowledged that deciding on whether to seek retrials in such cases is a complex and difficult process, considering various factors and consulting with the affected families, police, and prosecution counsel.
