A controversy erupted in the world of chess when American grandmaster Hans Niemann was accused of cheating during a match against Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen in the Sinquefield Cup in St Louis, Missouri, in September 2022. Niemann emerged victorious in the game, but Carlsen's accusation sparked a massive legal battle between the two players. However, the dispute was recently settled with a $100 million lawsuit. Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Niemann expressed his disappointment at being accused of cheating despite his victory, but stated that he has learned valuable lessons from the experience. When asked directly by Morgan if he had ever used a vibrating sex toy to cheat in a chess match, Niemann vehemently denied the allegation. Niemann had previously admitted to cheating in online matches on Chess.com when he was 12 and 16 years old, but he insisted that he did not cheat in the Sinquefield Cup or any in-person game. He filed a defamation lawsuit against Carlsen, Chess.com, and US grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, whom Niemann accused of amplifying and supporting Carlsen's false claims of cheating. Although the case was eventually dismissed, Chess.com maintained its report on Niemann, stating that there was no conclusive evidence of cheating in in-person games. Carlsen also acknowledged and understood the report's findings.
