An unidentified individual in California has won a whopping $1.76 billion on the Powerball lottery, making it the second-largest jackpot in history. The winner can either choose to receive the full amount over 30 years or take a lump-sum payment of approximately $774.1 million. Previously, the biggest prize was $2.04 billion, which was won in California as well. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are one in 292.2 million, making it an incredibly rare occurrence. The winning ticket was purchased at a store called Midway Market & Liquor, located in Frazier Park, about 75 miles north of Los Angeles. Powerball tickets are sold for $2 each across the United States, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Over time, billion-dollar prizes have become more common as ticket prices have been increased, and players now have to select six numbers instead of five, decreasing the chances of winning the grand prize.
