Officials have reported that a strong earthquake in western Afghanistan has caused the deaths of at least 14 people and left 78 injured. The US Geological Survey stated that the quake, measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale, originated approximately 40km away from the city of Herat, close to the border with Iran. The earthquake resulted in significant damage to several buildings, trapping individuals under rubble, according to Afghan authorities. The initial earthquake was followed by three powerful aftershocks. Bashir Ahmad, a 45-year-old resident of Herat, revealed that while he was in his office, he experienced the building shaking, and witnessed the collapse of walls and parts of the structure. Due to disrupted network connections, Ahmad expressed being unable to contact his family, leaving him worried and scared.
