Zara advertisement under scrutiny for resembling imagery of Gaza

Clothing retailer Zara is facing criticism over an advertising campaign that some say resembles images from the Israel-Gaza conflict. The campaign, known as "The Jacket," has sparked 50 complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). One image shows a model holding a mannequin wrapped in white plastic against a backdrop of damaged structures. Social media users have compared these images to those emerging from Gaza after Israeli bombing. The campaign, which showcased Zara's Atelier line, has been removed from the company's app and website. Some images have also been taken down from Zara's Instagram account. Critics have called for a boycott of the firm. The ASA confirmed it is reviewing the complaints but has not yet launched an investigation. This incident comes after retailer M&S faced backlash for posting an Instagram photo featuring Christmas party hats in the colors of the Palestinian flag on fire. The ASA received 116 complaints about the image but did not find any rule violations. M&S apologized and removed the post. Zara's parent company, Inditex, is scheduled to announce its latest quarterly results on Wednesday.
