Burglars recently broke into the offices of the South Africa Rugby Union in Cape Town and came into contact with the World Cup trophy that the team had won in France. However, they did not steal it. The incident occurred at the Tygerberg Office Park in Plattekloof, where a local journalist shared videos on X, revealing the men entering a room where a replica of the William Webb Ellis trophy was stored. Although the burglars approached the trophy, their main focus was searching for valuable items to steal. South Africa had emerged victorious in the Rugby World Cup by defeating New Zealand in Paris, making them the first nation to win the tournament four times. Concerns were raised when it was suspected that the trophy might have been stolen, which prompted Western Cape police to be notified. Two cases of business burglary were recorded by the police, involving two well-dressed men who arrived at the business park in a white Toyota Corolla. The burglars forced their way into the building by opening a ground floor window and then proceeded to search for valuables. The footage, shared by South African journalist Yusuf Abramjee, shows one of the burglars touching the trophy with his gloved hand, lifting it slightly, before moving on to the cupboards below. However, instead of taking the trophy, they stole whisky, five signed Springbok jerseys, and eight laptops. It was also reported that another company in the same park had 60 laptops stolen. Fortunately, the South Africa Rugby Union confirmed to the BBC that all trophies, including the Webb Ellis Cup, were secure and unharmed.
