Timothée Chalamet has expressed his awareness of the pressure he faced not to disappoint fans with his portrayal of Willy Wonka. At the world premiere of the film Wonka in London, Chalamet revealed that people are particularly attached to the beloved character of Willy Wonka. Fans waited for hours to catch a glimpse of the star and screamed his name as he walked the red carpet. Chalamet, who stars alongside Hugh Grant and Olivia Colman in the movie, acknowledged the popularity of the character and the desire for him to do justice to the role. However, he assured everyone that they were in good hands with director Paul King and that the film tells a different story of how Willy Wonka became who he is. Chalamet emphasized that his version of Wonka is youthful, ambitious, and full of hope. Grant's casting as the Oompa-Loompa named Lofty, who has green hair and an orange face, stirred controversy due to the decision not to cast an actor with dwarfism for the role. The director of the film defended the decision, explaining that they aimed to stay true to the iconic look of the Oompa-Loompas while adhering to Roald Dahl's physical description. The movie also features a young girl named Noodle, played by Calah Lane, who joins Wonka on his journey to invent a chocolate that grants the power of flight. The film, which was filmed in various locations across the UK, including the Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, will be released in UK cinemas on December 8, 2023.
