Police have confirmed that a 13ft (4m) alligator in Florida has been killed after being discovered with the remains of a local woman in its jaws. The incident occurred when a witness spotted the alligator in a Largo canal gripping a lower torso. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office announced that the animal was euthanized, and the remains of 41-year-old Sabrina Peckham were recovered from the waterway. An investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman's death. The police were alerted to the incident after receiving a report of a body in the waterway. Jamarcus Bullard, a witness, saw the alligator with what appeared to be a mannequin in its mouth and immediately notified the fire department. Authorities have described the incident as unbelievable, and news footage shows the large alligator surrounded by emergency vehicles. A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death is pending. Ms. Peckham's family has set up a fundraising page, stating that she was homeless at the time of her death. Nearby residents reported having seen smaller alligators in the area before, but nothing of this magnitude. This horrifying incident has sparked concern among locals, with one resident stating that she will now avoid walking in the area and will instead use alternative transportation methods due to the presence of such a large alligator.
