The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) will be hosting an exhibition of photographs from Elton John and David Furnish's private collection next year. Titled "Fragile Beauty," the exhibition will feature portraits of jazz musicians Miles Davis and Chet Baker, as well as actress Marilyn Monroe, spanning from the 1950s to the present. It will also include historic moments from the civil rights movement to Aids activism. Over 300 prints from at least 140 photographers will be on display, making it the largest temporary photography exhibition in the V&A's history. The exhibition is a result of a donation made by Sir Elton John in 2019, which led to the renaming of one of the museum's galleries after the singer and his husband. Curators have organized the exhibition into eight thematic sections covering fashion, celebrity, the male body, and American photography. Duncan Forbes, the V&A's head of photography, along with Newell Harbin and Lydia Caston, will be curating the exhibition. The exhibition will run from 18 May 2024 to 5 January 2025 and is titled "Fragile Beauty: Photographs from the Sir Elton John and David Furnish Collection in partnership with Gucci."
