The Israeli foreign ministry has announced that two Israeli tourists and their Egyptian guide were shot and killed in the city of Alexandria. Another Israeli individual was wounded in the attack, carried out by a "local" according to the ministry. Egyptian authorities have not yet confirmed the incident, but a private TV channel reported that a policeman opened fire on a group of visitors at Pompey's Pillar, an ancient Roman site. The attacker used his personal weapon and was detained at the scene. Videos on social media showed two people lying dead at the archaeological site. The Israeli foreign ministry is working with Egyptian authorities to repatriate the Israeli citizens as soon as possible. This shooting occurred a day after a Hamas attack on southern Israel, resulting in numerous casualties on both sides. Israel's policies towards the Palestinians have made it unpopular among many Egyptians. In a previous incident in June, an Egyptian police conscript killed three Israeli soldiers near the border, with conflicting explanations from Egypt and Israel regarding the nature of the attack.
