Donald Trump has vehemently denied accusations made by director Chris Columbus regarding his cameo appearance in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The former president made a brief appearance in the 1992 film, which featured a scene filmed at the Plaza Hotel, a property Trump owned at the time. Columbus claimed that Trump insisted on appearing in the movie if they used his hotel as a location. However, Trump argued that the filmmakers actually begged him to be a part of the film. He explained on his Truth Social platform that he initially didn't want to do it due to being busy, but eventually agreed due to the filmmakers' persistence. Trump highlighted the success of the movie and the popularity of his cameo, questioning why they would keep him in if they had felt bullied or didn't want him. Columbus's comments came from a 2020 interview with Business Insider, but garnered renewed attention on social media during the Christmas period. The director stated that Trump demanded a cameo in addition to the customary fee to film in the Plaza Hotel. Despite stating that audiences cheered when Trump appeared on screen and it became a memorable moment, Columbus did admit that Trump was able to push his way into the movie. Trump categorically denied this allegation, emphasizing that it was far from the truth. In the film, the main character Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, uses Trump's hotel to check in using his father's credit card, and Trump gives him directions to the lobby. Trump has made numerous cameo appearances in various television series and films, including Sex and the City, Zoolander, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, and Two Weeks Notice.
