Three US troops were killed in a drone attack that targeted their housing unit in Jordan. The soldiers were identified as Sgt William Jerome Rivers (46), Specialist Kennedy Ladon Sanders (24), and Specialist Breonna Alexsondria Moffett (23). The US government has blamed Iranian-backed groups for the attack and highlighted the involvement of Hezbollah. However, Iran has denied these claims. The Pentagon has emphasized that while it does not seek war with Iran, it will respond to any attacks on its forces. The drone used in the attack appears to be Iranian-made, potentially a type known as the Shahed drone. The attack took place at an army reserve unit base in Fort Moore, Georgia. The base is located near the Syrian border in Rukban, Jordan. Over 40 military personnel were injured in the attack, which occurred when air defense systems were turned off at the time. Iran has denied any involvement in supporting militant groups responsible for the strike. Iranian officials have stated that regional armed groups aligned with Iran act independently in response to what they perceive as American aggression. US President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin have both expressed their commitment to taking necessary actions in response to the attack. The Pentagon has described the attack as being carried out by an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-backed militia that shares similarities with Lebanese group Hezbollah. On the other hand, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed responsibility for the attack and has previously targeted US bases in the region. This incident marks the first time since the start of the war in Gaza that US troops have been killed in the region.
