Analyzing three important moments during Trump's recent encounter with Michael Cohen in court

Tuesday marked a pivotal day in Donald Trump's civil fraud trial in New York. The former president came face-to-face with his former lawyer and bitter enemy, Michael Cohen, who spent hours testifying about Trump's alleged inflation of asset values. While a judge has already ruled that Trump overestimated the value of his properties to secure favorable loans, the trial will determine the amount of damages he must pay. New York Attorney General Letitia James is seeking a $250 million fine and a ban on Trump conducting business in his home state. Trump, denying any wrongdoing, has been attending the trial voluntarily and is expected to testify at some point. Some of the key moments from the day in court included Cohen's claim that Trump would ask him to manipulate asset values to increase their worth based on arbitrary numbers. Cohen further stated that he and former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg would do whatever Trump told them to do until they achieved his desired goal. Trump, however, could not directly respond to Cohen's claims in court and instead used court recesses to discredit Cohen, whom he referred to as a proven liar and felon. The testimony also delved into unexpected topics such as Trump's attempt to purchase the Buffalo Bills football team and the involvement of singer Bon Jovi. Cohen testified that Trump used inflated asset figures on a financial statement in an effort to prove he had the funds to buy the team, although the bid ultimately failed. Sparks flew between Cohen and Trump's lawyer Alina Habba during cross-examination, with Habba attempting to portray Cohen as a serial liar. The tension escalated when Habba questioned Cohen about his tax evasion and elicited an outburst from him. The cross-examination will continue on Wednesday when both Trump and Cohen are scheduled to return to court.
