According to the United Nations, around 150,000 Palestinians are being forced to leave central Gaza as Israeli forces advance on refugee camps. Witnesses and Hamas's armed wing confirmed that tanks have reached the outskirts of Bureij camp. Israel's military has expanded its ground offensive to target Bureij, as well as nearby Nuseirat and Maghazi camps. The Hamas-run health ministry stated that dozens of people were killed across Gaza on Thursday due to Israeli bombardment. The war started after Hamas gunmen launched an unprecedented cross-border attack on southern Israel, resulting in the death of 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and the hostage-taking of around 240 others. The health ministry reported that, during 11 weeks of fighting, more than 21,300 people in Gaza have been killed, mostly children and women. On Thursday, the ministry announced that 50 people were killed in Israeli strikes in Maghazi, Beit Lahia, and Khan Younis. The deadliest incident occurred in Beit Lahia, where a block of four residential buildings was destroyed, resulting in the deaths of 30 people. Palestinian Red Crescent reported that 10 people were killed near al-Amal hospital in Khan Younis. The organization condemned the targeting of the hospital and called on the international community to protect it. IDF chief spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari announced on Wednesday that Khan Younis was a main Hamas terror center and that Israeli forces were operating there using new methods of warfare. Heavy fighting continued on Thursday, with Israeli tanks advancing on the densely populated Bureij camp from the north and east. The IDF has called for the evacuation of a strip of land in central Gaza, including Bureij and Nuseirat camps, and asked residents to move southwards to the town of Deir al-Balah. However, the UN warned that there is no space in Deir al-Balah as it is already overcrowded with several hundred thousand displaced people seeking shelter there. Many Palestinians have been forced to leave their homes, including Omar, who fled Bureij with his family. He expressed his hope that displacement would never happen, but sadly, it has become necessary due to the brutal Israeli war. On Thursday evening, an Israeli air strike on a building in Rafah, near the Egyptian border, reportedly housing displaced civilians resulted in the death of 20 people, as reported by Gaza's health ministry.
