The Tanzanian government has confirmed the death of a student named Clemence Felix Mtenga, who was taken hostage in the Hamas attack on Israel. Mtenga, 22, was one of two Tanzanians taken captive on October 7th, although the details surrounding his death remain unclear. The Tanzanian foreign ministry is in contact with Israel regarding the other hostage, Joshua Mollel. Over 230 hostages were taken by Hamas in the assault, resulting in the deaths of at least 1,200 people. Israel has disclosed that the hostages, who were transported from Israel to the Gaza Strip, come from 25 different countries. It is worth noting that one South African hostage has not yet been identified. Both Mtenga and Mollel were part of an agricultural internship program and had arrived in Israel in September with plans to stay for 11 months. Mtenga had been residing on Kibbutz Nir Oz where he worked on a dairy farm. Despite the family's concerns, they remained hopeful for his rescue. The Tanzanian foreign ministry has notified Mr. Mtenga's family and is coordinating with the Israeli government to repatriate his body. The situation concerning Mr. Mollel remains uncertain. Prior to his abduction, Mr. Mollel's father had expressed his anxiety and inability to eat or sleep due to his desperate desire to know his son's whereabouts. The last message he communicated to his son was to behave well and make the most of his internship. Currently, four hostages have been released, with one being freed by Israeli forces. Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist organization by the UK, US, and other countries, claims to have kept the hostages in secure locations and tunnels within Gaza.
