The renowned Sycamore Gap tree, located next to Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland, UK, has been intentionally cut down, causing people from all over the world to pay their respects. The tree was estimated to be around 300 years old and gained fame for appearing in the 1991 film "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," featuring Kevin Costner. Imogen Potter and her family were among the last individuals to visit the tree on Wednesday, as they hiked to Sycamore Gap to celebrate her mother's 60th birthday. Imogen expresses her shock and sadness upon learning the news, feeling fortunate to have seen the tree before its demise. Another visitor, Kris Hodgetts, initially believed the news to be a hoax when he woke up and saw it. He emphasizes that losing the tree is not just losing another tree, but a symbol of nature's perfection that cannot be replaced by any other form. Miles Courage, who had a family reunion at the Sycamore Gap tree last year, describes the tree as a special and memorable sight that cannot be replicated. George Richford, who captured photos of the tree on a stormy day, expresses his devastation at its disappearance, stating that it is tragic to witness its loss so soon after his visit. Harriet Robinson felt inspired to write a poem as a tribute to the tree and its exceptional location, highlighting its significance as a place of solace and freedom for many.
