A man has been arrested in Austin, Texas, after a series of violent incidents on Tuesday resulted in six deaths and three injuries. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, is facing charges of capital murder and others. Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson revealed that the shootings and homicides throughout the day were related. However, the nature of the connection between the suspect and the victims is yet unknown. Local media outlets have identified the suspect as Shane James, a 34-year-old man who has been taken into custody and charged with capital murder. The police have not confirmed these reports. Henderson stated during a press conference that the violent events began in the morning when a school district police officer was shot and injured. The Northeast Early College High School, where the incident occurred, was put on lockdown. Subsequently, a man and woman were killed in a double homicide, and a male cyclist was shot, with his injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Later in the evening, a call was made regarding a potential home burglary, leading to an officer encountering the suspect in the backyard. The suspect shot and injured the officer before escaping in a vehicle. Upon searching the residence, officers discovered the bodies of two additional individuals. Eventually, the suspect was apprehended after crashing the vehicle during a car chase with the police. Additionally, the violence extended beyond Austin, as two bodies were found in a San Antonio area home, revealing a connection between the suspect and the residence, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar.
