Uber Eats is facing criticism for its Super Bowl advertisement that seemed to make light of a man's allergic reaction to peanut butter. The Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) charity expressed its disappointment and surprise at the company's use of allergies as a joke. Individuals who are allergic to peanuts also voiced their disgust, saying the ad was tone-deaf and unnecessary. The ad, titled "Don't Forget Uber Eats," features Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, David Beckham, and Victoria Beckham. While the premise revolves around forgetting things, controversy arises when a man is depicted having an allergic reaction after discovering peanuts in peanut butter. Food Allergy Canada highlighted the seriousness of food allergy and called for the ad to be edited. Dr. Sung Poblete from FARE expressed concern that such ads might encourage bullying among children. Anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction, can be caused by food, medicine, or insect stings. The small font message at the bottom of the screen stating "Please please do not forget there are peanuts in peanut butter" fails to alleviate the criticism. Individuals with food allergies, like JD Arland from Indiana, called the ad offensive and expressed frustration with the stereotypical depiction of anaphylaxis. However, Arland also saw an opportunity for Uber Eats to show a commitment to the food allergy community on its platform. Super Bowl ads are a significant part of the event, with many viewers tuning in solely for the commercials. Over 100 million people are expected to watch the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
