Former Australian cricketer Stuart MacGill has been charged in connection with an alleged cocaine supply plot. The 52-year-old, who represented Australia in 44 Test matches, was arrested by the police in Sydney on Tuesday. The investigation began after MacGill claimed that he was abducted and assaulted in 2021. While he has not entered a plea yet, he has previously denied any involvement in drug supply. In April 2021, MacGill made headlines when he reported being forced into a car in Sydney, where he was allegedly assaulted and threatened at gunpoint before being released. Although he sustained minor injuries, he did not require medical treatment. MacGill stated in an interview following the incident that he had done nothing wrong, and the police described him as a victim at the time. Six people, including his former partner's brother, have been charged in connection with the abduction. After a two-year investigation, MacGill has now also been charged with participating in the supply of a large quantity of prohibited drugs, with local media estimating the deal to involve over $300,000 worth of cocaine. MacGill has been released on bail and is expected to appear in court on 26 October. He was ranked as the world's second-best bowler at one point, second only to his teammate Shane Warne. MacGill played as a spinner for the national team from 1998 to 2008.
