A powerful storm has caused significant damage and loss of life as it moved along the US east coast. At least four individuals were killed, including a woman in South Carolina who drowned in floodwaters and three men in northeastern states as the storm made its way towards Canada. The storm has also resulted in power outages for over 600,000 residents and forced millions to be on high alert for flooding. The US National Weather Service has reported heavy rain leading to river and flash flooding, as well as road washouts in certain areas. Wind gusts reached almost 70 mph along the southern New England shoreline. Multiple flights have been delayed or cancelled due to the hazardous weather conditions, particularly in the Boston and New York airport areas. Schools have also been impacted, with classes being cancelled or delayed due to dangerous road conditions. However, the weather is expected to improve in the upcoming days, allowing the flooding to subside. Nonetheless, the situation remains concerning as dozens of people were stranded and in need of rescue in Georgetown, South Carolina, where more than 9 inches of rain fell. Nearly 60 million individuals from Virginia to Maine are under a flood watch. This storm serves as a reminder of the travel chaos caused by a major winter storm in the US during the holiday season last year.
