Socialist leader Pedro Sánchez has successfully obtained parliamentary approval to serve another term as the prime minister of Spain after several weeks of negotiations. He managed to secure a slim majority of four seats in the 350-seat chamber by striking an amnesty agreement with Catalan separatists involved in a failed secession attempt. In July, the conservative Popular Party emerged as the winner in elections, but its leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo was unable to form a majority government. Sánchez emphasized to the Members of Parliament that the amnesty deal would play a crucial role in healing divisions within the country.
