Two American rappers, Snoop Dogg and Master P, have filed a lawsuit against Walmart and Post Consumer Brands for allegedly undermining their cereal brand. The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, accuses the supermarket giant and the food manufacturing company of hiding boxes of Snoop Cereal and falsely claiming it was out of stock. Benjamin Crump, the lawyer representing the rappers, has called this action a "blatant disregard" for a black-owned business. Both Walmart and Post have defended themselves by pointing to low sales of the product, with Walmart highlighting its support for entrepreneurs and emphasizing that several factors impact product sales. Post expressed disappointment in consumer demand not meeting expectations. Snoop Dogg and Master P established their own food company called Broadus Foods in 2022, which produces various breakfast food items. According to the complaint, Post allegedly tried to undermine Broadus Foods by pressuring the rappers to sell their company to them. Although the rappers agreed to a partnership where Post would manufacture and distribute their products, the lawsuit claims that Post and Walmart deliberately hindered the availability of Snoop Cereal to consumers and imposed excessive costs on Broadus Foods. Master P uploaded a video on Instagram purportedly demonstrating multiple Walmart stores not stocking the cereal. The video shows unidentified Walmart employees searching the inventory system, which falsely indicates that the product is out of stock, while unopened shipments of Snoop Cereal are found in the storeroom. Post Consumer Brands, in its statement, expressed enthusiasm for partnering with Broadus Foods and emphasizes its substantial investments in the business. Walmart stated that it would respond accordingly once it reviews the complete complaint.
