A 64-year-old man in Slovakia has been arrested after threatening to carry out a massacre similar to the recent mass shooting in Prague. The man called emergency services in the city of Zilina and stated that he intended to do "what happened in Prague". He now faces charges of spreading general alarm, which could result in a maximum prison sentence of two years. The shooting in Prague occurred at a university, where a student opened fire and killed 14 people. Since the incident, Czech police have also made several arrests. In Slovakia, the man detained made a subsequent call to emergency services expressing his desire to acquire a gun for a similar massacre. Police responded swiftly and arrested him, with video footage showing the arrest taking place. Another man was also arrested in the Czech Republic after threatening to kill the surviving family members of the gunman. Police found a legally-held weapon at his home. In the midst of public unease following the shootings, there have been additional security incidents. One involved a man threatening to shoot his neighbors, although he was found to be drunk and unarmed upon arrest. In another incident, armed response units were dispatched to an intersection in Prague after reports of a man holding a grenade, although it was later determined to be an imitation weapon. Two foreigners were arrested in relation to this incident. Additionally, Prague Airport's Terminal 2 was briefly evacuated after an English-speaking man called in a bomb threat. However, after thorough inspection, no explosives were found, and the terminal was reopened. These incidents have occurred during the Christmas season, immediately following a day of national mourning for the victims of the Prague shooting. President Petr Pavel called for solidarity and support for those who have lost loved ones, emphasizing the importance of empathy and consideration in helping them cope with this tragic situation.
