Family members of the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting have made an offer to settle the $1.5 billion debt owed by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. They are willing to accept either the sale of Jones's assets or a minimum payment of $85 million over the course of 10 years. Jones had previously admitted to making false claims about the shooting, which resulted in harassment towards the grieving families. The Sandy Hook families had sued Jones for his false claims and were awarded a $1.5 billion judgement. Although Jones has filed for bankruptcy, the court ruled that he is still obligated to pay the settlement. The new offer from the families requires Jones to also pay them half of any income he earns over $9 million per year. Court filings from the families' lawyers expressed frustration at Jones's extravagant lifestyle and lack of cooperation. Jones's attorney did not provide any comment on the matter. The families argued that the case needs to be resolved soon due to Jones's financial situation. Jones has long cast doubt on the Sandy Hook shooting, spreading conspiracy theories that it was staged and involving government involvement. He has since admitted his wrongdoing and acknowledged the reality of the tragic event.
