India's foreign minister, S Jaishankar, has stated that the country is willing to look into any specific information provided by Canada regarding the killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This comes after Canada announced that it was investigating credible allegations linking the Indian state to the murder, which India dismissed as absurd. Jaishankar emphasized that while India denies involvement in the murder, they are open to investigating relevant allegations. Nijjar, designated a terrorist by India, was shot dead in Canada in June 2021. The Khalistan movement, seeking a separate Sikh homeland, gained traction in the 1980s but has since lost popularity in India. Jaishankar also mentioned that India has shared information with Canada regarding organized crime related to secessionist forces. The ongoing controversy resulted in the expulsion of diplomats from both countries and the suspension of visa services for Canadians in India. Jaishankar clarified that he is not involved in the intelligence-sharing network Five Eyes or the FBI when asked about shared intelligence regarding Nijjar's murder. The US expressed its support for a thorough investigation into Canada's allegations and called for India's cooperation.
