Farmers disrupt rural France, causing chaos

French farmers are protesting against what they perceive as the decline of their way of life by turning road signs upside down. This campaign, which originated in the Tarn department and has now spread countrywide, aims to draw attention to the contradictory instructions and challenges faced by farmers. The farmers cite specific grievances, such as rising diesel costs, delayed EU subsidies, excessive bureaucracy, and competition from imports. They feel overwhelmed by the mental burden they carry as they are constantly asked to adopt more ecological practices while being encouraged to produce more for France's food sovereignty. The farmers' union claims that the campaign has led to the government backing down on two taxes for next year. However, there have been no attempts yet to restore the road signs to their original state.
