An email from Dutch prosecutors has revealed that they were aware of the gunman who killed three people in Rotterdam and had warned the hospital where one of the victims was shot. The gunman, named Fouad L, had displayed "psychotic behavior" according to the email sent to the hospital. Fouad L was arrested on Thursday after allegedly shooting a woman and her daughter at their home and a lecturer at the Erasmus Medical Center. Police have disclosed that he had previous convictions for animal cruelty. The email described Fouad L's troubling past behaviors, including being found "half-naked in the garden on a pile of leaves." Prosecutors even suggested that his behavior could impact whether the hospital grants him a medical diploma. Fouad L himself posted the email on a web forum, complaining about teachers who he believed were undermining him. He also admitted to being an alcoholic and claimed he had been fired for failing to complete his medical degree. The authenticity of the email has been confirmed by prosecutors. Additionally, during a search of Fouad L's phone at the time of the animal cruelty investigation, pictures of people being stabbed and right-wing extremist images were found. The police arrested Fouad L outside the Erasmus Medical Center in a major operation, which involved an elite police unit storming the hospital and helicopters hovering above the building. The sequence of events began with the gunman shooting a woman and her daughter at their home, followed by setting fire to the building. Although it has been reported that the woman had previously reported the gunman to the authorities, this detail has not been confirmed by the police. Subsequently, the gunman went to the hospital and killed a male lecturer before causing a fire that caused significant damage. The hospital has canceled all lectures in the building and invited students to mourn there. Staff outside the teaching hospital expressed frustration that Rotterdam is being depicted as a city plagued by violence related to gangs and drug trafficking. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb both expressed their condolences to the victims and their loved ones. Fouad L is expected to appear in court on Friday for a preliminary hearing.
