Former US President Jimmy Carter plans to join current President Joe Biden and former President Bill Clinton at a memorial service for his wife, Rosalynn Carter, in Atlanta. The Carter Centre confirmed that despite being 99 years old and receiving hospice care, Mr. Carter intends to attend the memorial but is not expected to speak. The memorial service will also be attended by First Lady Jill Biden and the four living former First Ladies, excluding George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Rosalynn Carter passed away at the age of 96 after being diagnosed with dementia earlier this year. The Carters' 77-year marriage is the longest in the history of any first couple. The memorial events began on Monday, with Rosalynn Carter's body being transported by motorcade from her home in Plains to Atlanta, with stops along the way, including at her alma mater Georgia Southwestern State University. The tribute service will take place at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church at Emory University on Tuesday and will be attended by all four living former first ladies. President Biden, former Presidents Clinton and Obama, along with their spouses, traveled to Georgia on Air Force One. Vice President Kamala Harris, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens are also expected to attend. Despite his ongoing health issues, including melanoma, Carter will be present at the entire service, along with their children and grandchildren. The ceremony will include readings from Mrs. Carter's favorite Bible passages and live performances by musicians Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, who have collaborated with the Carters on Habitat for Humanity projects. A private funeral service will then take place on Wednesday at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains for close family and friends.
