Nigerian singer Rema has announced that he will be cancelling all of his performances in December to prioritize his health. The Afrobeats star shared the news on Instagram, expressing his sadness about the decision. He explained that he needs time to recover and assured his fans that he will be back in 2024. Rema gained international recognition for his hit song "Calm Down," which broke streaming and chart records. The 23-year-old recently performed at London's O2 arena, using the opportunity to raise awareness about the Benin Bronzes, culturally significant artifacts looted by British colonialists. Rema had scheduled tour dates in Abuja, Benin, and Lagos for December, as well as a performance at the Hey Neighbour Festival in South Africa. It is unclear whether ticket holders will receive refunds or have their tickets transferred to future dates. Rema recently accepted the first-ever Billboard Music Award for best Afrobeats song, thanking his fans and highlighting the global influence of Afrobeats.
