According to maritime security firm Ambrey, a Greek-owned vessel flagged by Malta has been attacked with a missile in the Red Sea near the coast of Yemen. This is believed to be the third incident involving the bulk carrier, known as Zografia, in the past 24 hours. The US military recently announced that it successfully intercepted Iranian-supplied weapons bound for the Houthis during an operation. In response, the US has conducted more strikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. The Houthis have threatened retaliation, and on Sunday, the US claimed to have shot down a missile fired towards one of their warships from a Houthi area. The Houthis have been targeting various vessels since November, citing connections to Israel, but many of the vessels have no such affiliations. As a result, several shipping lines have now decided to divert their routes through the Cape of Good Hope to reach Europe instead. The US has stated that the weapons seized from a ship near the Yemen coast suggest that the Houthis have been using similar weapons in their Red Sea attacks. The seizure occurred on January 11, the same day as the initial US-UK airstrikes. The confiscated items include components for cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as air defense equipment. The US Central Command called this the first seizure of Iranian-supplied advanced conventional weapons to the Houthis since November 2023. The search is still underway for two Navy Seals who went missing during the operation, with one falling overboard due to high waves and the other jumping in to assist, following protocol.
