A very rare Star Wars figure, known as the Jawa character, has exceeded expectations at an auction in Hertfordshire. The figure, which comes complete with a vinyl cape, is considered the most sought-after Star Wars figure from the 1970s. It sold for £19,500 to a collector from the UK. The auctioneer, Jonathan Torode, expressed his honor in handling such a rare piece of Star Wars toy history and described the Jawa figure as the ultimate item for Star Wars enthusiasts. This was the second time that Excalibur Auctions had the privilege to showcase such a highly desired collectible, as another identical Jawa figure had been sold for £26,670 just six months prior. It was discovered by the same owner among a collection of memorabilia. Each figure was initially estimated to sell for £10,000 to £15,000. The owner of the figure, who worked for Marvel UK during the 1970s, received it as part of a range of gifts from the toy company Palitoy during the promotion of the Star Wars line in Marvel comics. Excalibur Auctions noted that only around 10 to 15 examples of this specific Jawa figure with a vinyl cape have been documented, as later productions used a cloth cape instead.
