The Metropolitan Police is preparing for a major security operation ahead of a pro-Palestinian demonstration in London. The force expects the march to be the largest yet and has warned of the potential for clashes. Protesters gathering near the Cenotaph can be arrested under new measures announced by the police. The timing of the march has been criticized as disrespectful, and protesters have been urged to be mindful of the fear and distress in Jewish and Muslim communities. The Met will deploy a significant number of officers in order to reassure local communities and expects to use force if necessary. Concerns have been raised about the presence of counter-protesters, including far-right groups. The organizers of the demonstration are calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and expect a turnout of around 500,000 people. An exclusion zone will be in place around the Cenotaph and a large portion of Whitehall. The police have expressed concerns about disruptive splinter groups, and other security measures have been put in place. The legality of banning the march has been questioned, and there has been a political dispute over comments made by the Home Secretary in relation to the Met. The Prime Minister has supported the Home Secretary, but an investigation is ongoing. Armistice Day events will still take place, including a service at the Cenotaph and the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.
