According to US authorities, a man in Peru named Eddie Manuel Nunez Santos has been arrested for allegedly sending more than 150 fake bomb threats to various public buildings, schools, and synagogues in the United States. The motive behind these threats was said to be his frustration after being refused explicit photos by teenage girls. Mr. Nunez Santos, a website developer, disguised himself as a teenage boy named "Lucas" and communicated with these girls on an online gaming platform. Prosecutors claim that when the girls declined his requests for explicit pictures, he threatened to bomb their schools. The threats, which began in mid-September, caused evacuations, disruptions, and panic in several US states including New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Arizona, and Alaska. During the Jewish New Year holiday, synagogues in New York even received threats claiming that explosive devices were present in the buildings. In Pennsylvania, some schools were evacuated due to the threats. The repercussions of these hoax threats led to the deployment of police, school closures, flight delays, and even a hospital lockdown. Investigators were able to trace the origin of the threats through emails, phone numbers, and IP addresses linked to Mr. Nunez Santos' work email. US Attorney Damian Williams condemned the defendant's actions, stating that his campaign of false bomb threats wasted critical law enforcement resources and created fear in hundreds of communities across the country. Mr. Nunez Santos now faces multiple charges, including sending threatening messages, attempting sexual exploitation of a child, and attempting to receive child pornography.
