A violent dispute between two tribes in Papua New Guinea's remote Highlands region has resulted in the deaths of at least 55 people. The victims were shot dead in Enga Province, and authorities are still gathering information about the incident. This ambush marks one of the deadliest episodes of violence in the region in recent years. Acting Superintendent George Kakas expressed shock and disbelief at the magnitude of the killing. The Highlands area has a long history of violence, often related to conflicts over land and wealth distribution. In response to escalating tribal violence last year, Enga Province was placed under a three-month lockdown with a curfew and travel restrictions imposed by the police. The devastating incident has left the community mentally stressed and struggling to comprehend the level of violence.
