An Israeli soldier who was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7th has been rescued by Israel's military. Private Ori Megidish was freed during ground operations in Gaza on Sunday night and has been reunited with her family, according to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). The IDF stated that she has undergone medical checks and is "doing well," but did not provide any details about her release. Private Megidish is the first soldier to be released out of the five hostages, with at least 238 people still being held by Hamas. The IDF mentioned that she was abducted by Hamas on October 7th and was released during their ground operations. They expressed joy that she is now back with her family. Additionally, Hamas had launched an attack on southern Israel more than three weeks ago, resulting in the deaths of over 1,400 people and the taking of dozens of hostages. These hostages, including women, children, the elderly, and some soldiers, are being held in undisclosed locations within the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, Israel has initiated a significant military operation in Gaza with the objective of dismantling Hamas and its control over the region. The Hamas-run health ministry claims that at least 8,000 Palestinians have been killed during this conflict. In a separate development, Hamas released a video featuring three Israeli women who are held as hostages. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the video as "cruel propaganda."
