The Snowboard Shop in the UK has decided to stop selling Onewheel electric skateboards due to a recall in the US. The Consumer Product Safety Commission in the US issued the recall after four people died while riding the devices. The commission stated that Onewheels posed a crash hazard that could lead to serious injury or death. The Snowboard Shop has said it will contact its UK customers who have purchased Onewheels to inform them of the issue. The store has left the products on its website but only for customers to enquire about the recall. Future Motion, the manufacturer of Onewheel, has been approached for clarification on whether the recall affects UK resellers. Other distributors of Onewheels in the UK have also been asked for comment. Future Motion is facing 31 lawsuits in the US from individuals who claim they fell because the Onewheel stopped or shut off unexpectedly. The recall covers all models of Onewheel electric skateboards, including the original Onewheel and various other models. The CPSC has received reports of injuries and deaths related to the devices, including traumatic brain injuries and fractures. Future Motion and the CPSC urge riders to wear safety gear such as helmets and knee pads. The company is also offering a new safety alert feature called haptic buzz, which can be installed through a firmware update for some Onewheel models. Customers with the original Onewheel and Onewheel+ models are eligible for a $100 credit towards a new device. The recall requests can be submitted through a link on Future Motion's website.
