The Met Office has confirmed that there will be a white Christmas after snowfall in the Highlands. While most parts of Scotland experienced rain and mild temperatures, there was a mixture of rain and snow in Tulloch Bridge and Aviemore, as well as light snowfall in Braemar and forecasts of possible flurries in higher areas. Just one snowflake within a 24-hour period is enough for Christmas Day to be considered an "official" white Christmas. However, temperatures are expected to drop on Boxing Day, and there is a weather warning in place for Wednesday. The Met Office also recorded the highest daily minimum temperature for Christmas Day on record, with temperatures not falling below 12.4C at Exeter Airport and East Malling, Kent. The warmest temperature recorded so far was 13.2C, making it the warmest December 25 since 2018. Since 1960, more than half of Christmases have been classified as white, with 2021 also being classified as such. However, there have only been four instances since 1960 where over 40% of weather stations in the UK reported snow on the ground at 09:00. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and rain on Wednesday, covering Aberdeen, Perth, and parts of Edinburgh.
