A tragic plane crash in Utah has claimed the lives of a state senator from North Dakota, his wife, their two children, and the pilot. The accident occurred shortly after takeoff near Moab, Utah, where the plane had stopped to refuel. The Larsen family was on their way back home to North Dakota after visiting relatives in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Grand County Sheriff's Office received a report about the plane crash, and emergency responders, including sheriff's deputies, the Moab County Fire Department, and paramedics, rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, all passengers on board, including the pilot, were pronounced dead. Senate Majority Leader David Hogue confirmed Senator Doug Larsen's death in an email to his colleagues. Hogue expressed his condolences and urged everyone to keep the Larsen family in their thoughts and prayers during such a difficult time. The crash site was situated in a remote area near the airport, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the incident. The NTSB shared information about the crash on their media account, stating that they are looking into the circumstances surrounding the Piper PA-28-140 airplane crash near Moab. Despite the tragedy, Canyonlands Airport will continue to operate as the investigation proceeds. Senator Larsen, elected in 2020, was known for his work on industry and business legislation and his service in the North Dakota National Guard. His Facebook page described him as a conservative Republican outsider dedicated to serving his constituents in District 34.
