New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been accused of sexual assault by a woman who filed court papers on Wednesday. The plaintiff claims that the assault took place in 1993 while both of them were working for the City of New York. A spokesperson from City Hall stated that Mayor Adams has no recollection of ever meeting the accuser and firmly denies the allegations. The legal action was carried out under the state's Adult Survivors Act, which is set to expire on Friday. This law has provided survivors of sexual misconduct with a one-year opportunity to bring lawsuits that would have otherwise been barred by the statute of limitations. The accuser's attorney praised the importance of this act, stating that it has allowed many women to seek justice. At the time of the incident, Mayor Adams was a police officer in the city, and the court papers also mention the Transit Bureau of the police department. In a statement released on Thursday, a City Hall spokesperson asserted that Mayor Adams does not recognize the plaintiff. While he cannot confirm whether they ever crossed paths, he vehemently denies any physical harm towards anyone.
