Fans of Afrobeats star MohBad were teargassed by police in Lagos, Nigeria, after they gathered at the Lekki toll gate following a memorial concert for the late singer. MohBad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, passed away last week, prompting an outpouring of grief and demands for transparency regarding the cause of his death. The Lagos authorities have exhumed his body as part of an investigation. The concert, held on Lagos's Victoria Island, featured performances by music stars and movie celebrities who shared their memories of MohBad. The hashtag #justiceformohbad has been trending on social media, with fans seeking answers about his death. Protests have taken place across southern Nigeria, leading to an inquiry by the Lagos state governor. The dispersal of mourners with teargas at the Lekki toll gate has drawn comparisons to the 2020 incident when protesters were shot and killed by armed forces. The police, however, deny any similarity and claim that the crowd ignored warnings that the area was off-limits. The police insist that no live ammunition was used and no injuries or fatalities occurred. The autopsy on MohBad has been completed, but the official autopsy report may take several weeks to be finalized.
