In the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi, authorities discovered 123 individuals from neighboring countries who were trapped in a trailer. Among them were 34 children, according to Mexico's immigration agency. The majority of those found in Matehuala, which is located 600km north of Mexico City, were from Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Honduras. While officials did not disclose where the migrants were headed, it is common for many to travel through the Americas with hopes of reaching the United States. The discovery was made after a local resident reported hearing cries coming from a locked trailer box. The National Migration Institute of Mexico stated that the individuals are being provided with essential items such as food and medical assistance and will be given temporary accommodation until their situation is resolved. Some of the migrants came from El Salvador, Ecuador, and Cuba. It remains uncertain whether these individuals in the trailer are linked to the ongoing migration caravan of around 7,000 people making their way from southern Mexico to the United States. These caravans mostly consist of individuals from Central and South America. Many of those traveling this route are vulnerable to exploitation, kidnapping, and extortion by organized crime groups. President Joe Biden has faced criticism, particularly from Republicans, for his approach to handling migration ahead of next year's election. The situation at the US-Mexico border has been a major issue, with US authorities detaining over 2.2 million migrants since last October. The increasing number of migrants in cities like New York presents a challenge for President Biden, who has faced strong backlash for his management of the border.
