The late actor Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler in the TV sitcom Friends, now has a foundation set up in his name to support those struggling with addiction. Perry himself battled with alcohol and drugs for a significant part of his life. The Matthew Perry Foundation, in line with his enduring commitment to helping others facing addiction, seeks to honor his legacy and make a difference in as many lives as possible. One of Perry's quotes, emphasizing his desire to be remembered for his dedication to helping others rather than for his acting career, is featured on the foundation's website. The National Philanthropic Trust has confirmed its management of the foundation's funds. Perry passed away at the age of 54 and the cause of death is yet to be determined. His co-creator Marta Kauffman spoke highly of his dedication to helping fellow addicts, noting how unfair his death feels given his recent positive state of mind. David Crane, another co-creator of Friends, concurred that helping others battling addiction became Perry's main purpose. Perry transformed his Malibu beach compound into a men's sober living facility and received recognition from the White House for his efforts. Tributes have poured in, with fellow actor Hank Azaria acknowledging Perry as his "brother" who aided him in his own journey towards sobriety. Perry's Friends co-stars released a joint statement expressing their devastation over his passing.
