The death of Mahsa Amini on September 16, 2022, after being detained by Iran's morality police, triggered unprecedented protests in the country. Thousands of people worldwide have now taken to the streets to demonstrate on the one-year anniversary of her death. In Iran, Amjad Amini, Mahsa's father, was detained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and received a warning from them regarding commemorating his daughter's death. Human rights groups, such as the Kurdish support group Hengaw and Norway-based Iran Human Rights, have confirmed this. However, Amjad was later released. On the other hand, the Iranian state news agency, IRNA, refuted these claims and instead reported that security forces had prevented an attempt on Amjad Amini's life. Moreover, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network disclosed that family members of other individuals who lost their lives during the protests that ensued after Mahsa Amini's death have also been arrested or faced threats.
