Emmanuel Macron has chosen Gabriel Attal as France's next prime minister in an effort to reinvigorate his presidency through a new government. At just 34 years old, Attal will become the youngest prime minister in modern French history, surpassing the record previously held by Socialist Laurent Fabius, who was 37 when appointed in 1984 by François Mitterrand. Attal will take over from Élisabeth Borne, who resigned from her position after a challenging 20-month tenure that was marked by a parliamentary majority deficit. As the current education minister, Attal's appointment is undoubtedly attention-grabbing. He now faces the critical task of leading the French government into the upcoming European Parliament elections in June.
