A woman in her 30s was shot and killed after opening fire in a crowded megachurch owned by Pastor Joel Osteen in Texas. Two off-duty police officers, who were working as church security, fatally shot the woman. Two other individuals, an older man and a young boy, were also shot, with the boy currently in critical condition. The identities of the suspect and victims have not been disclosed. Authorities have not determined the motive behind the shooting. The incident occurred when the woman entered the church armed with a long rifle while wearing a trench coat and carrying a backpack. Pastor Osteen mentioned that the church was preparing to start its Spanish-speaking service at the time. Chief Troy Finner of the Houston Police confirmed that the woman was accompanied by the young boy but did not comment on their relationship. The two officers acted quickly and shot the woman to prevent further harm. After being injured, the woman claimed there was a bomb, but no explosives were found in her possession. It remains unclear whether the young boy was injured by the officers or the woman. Another male victim in his 50s was also taken to the hospital. Joel Osteen, a well-known televangelist, took over the megachurch after his father passed away. The church, which can accommodate 16,000 people and was previously home to the Houston Rockets, has grown significantly under Osteen's leadership. Around 45,000 parishioners attend weekly services either in person or online and on television. The church is considered the third-largest in the United States. In response to the tragedy, Osteen expressed devastation and gratitude for the swift action taken by law enforcement, emphasizing the importance of faith in times of darkness.
