According to court testimony, South African gospel singer Kelly Khumalo has been accused of ordering the murder of her former boyfriend, football star Senzo Meyiwa. Meyiwa was shot while trying to protect Khumalo from armed robbers in 2014, and five suspects were arrested last year. The lead investigator, Bongani Gininda, claimed in court that Khumalo had orchestrated a contract killing. Khumalo's spokesperson stated that they have faith in the legal process and that her legal team is addressing the situation. The trial of the accused has captivated the country. Khumalo was initially suspected of involvement after police documents were leaked, though her lawyer denied her knowledge of the individuals. Gininda presented evidence linking Khumalo to the suspects through cell phone records. Additionally, a photo of money on Khumalo's phone matched an image found on a suspect's phone. The court is currently determining the admissibility of confession statements, as two suspects claim they were made under duress. Khumalo and Meyiwa have a child together, but Gininda alleged that she had a falling-out with him and wanted to eliminate him, citing communication records between Khumalo and her sister.
