A court in London has dismissed a legal case brought by a former lover of the ex-king of Spain, Juan Carlos. Danish businesswoman Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn had accused Juan Carlos of harassing her after their relationship ended in 2012. She claimed that the harassment, including spying and break-ins, began when she refused to return expensive gifts from him. However, the judge ruled that the court had no jurisdiction over the case and did not make a judgement on the allegations themselves. The judge also stated that zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn had not sufficiently proven that the alleged harassment took place in England. Juan Carlos' spokesperson described the ruling as confirming his innocence and enabling him to make public appearances. Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn expressed disappointment with the decision, saying it highlighted the challenges victims of harassment face in the legal system. Previously, UK judges had ruled that she could not sue Juan Carlos over allegations during his time as king due to his immunity. The ex-king has been living in exile in the United Arab Emirates since 2020 following allegations of fraud that were later dropped.
