A man in Kenya has been found guilty of the murder of a businesswoman, while his ex-fiancée, a popular news anchor, has been acquitted. The man, Joseph Irungu, also known as "Jowie", slit Monica Kimani's throat at her home in Nairobi in September 2018, shocking the nation. The court heard that Irungu did not give her a chance to survive and intended for her to die instantly. His ex-partner, TV presenter Jacque Maribe, was acquitted of the murder charge, but the judge stated that she should be prosecuted for giving false information to the police. The murder trial has received significant attention in Kenya, although no motive for the killing has been established. Irungu will remain in custody until he is sentenced on 8 March.
