In a trial held in New York, actor Jonathan Majors has been convicted of assaulting his former girlfriend, British choreographer Grace Jabbari. Majors, well-known for his portrayal of Kang in the Marvel universe, was found guilty of attacking Jabbari during an altercation that occurred in March. Jabbari testified in court, revealing that she suffered a fractured finger, bruising, a cut behind her ear, and extreme pain as a result of the incident. Majors now faces a potential jail sentence of up to one year and the status of his upcoming Marvel film roles is uncertain. The jury reached its verdict after three days of deliberation, and it was disclosed on Monday. The crime unfolded as the couple was in a car in New York, and Jabbari discovered a text message on Majors' phone from another woman, expressing a desire to kiss him. Prosecutors argued that when she attempted to take the phone, Majors physically assaulted her, twisting her arm, and striking her head to retrieve it. Jabbari described the blow to her head as "severe". Prosecutors presented voice recordings and text messages as evidence, including a message sent by Majors in September 2022 where he referred to himself as a "monster" and expressed suicidal threats. The jury also listened to an audio recording of an argument between the couple in the same month, during which Majors told Jabbari she should emulate Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama, wives of Martin Luther King and former President Barack Obama, respectively. Majors' defense attorney argued that the actor was the true victim, claiming that Jabbari assaulted him in a fit of jealousy upon discovering the text message in the car.
