Israeli tanks have reportedly surrounded the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, resulting in the deaths of 12 people according to the Hamas-run health ministry. The hospital's director stated that the post-operative care department was hit and that Israeli troops were only 20m away. The Israeli military claimed that they targeted "terrorists" who had fired at them from within the hospital. The World Health Organization condemned the attack, stating that health workers and civilians should never be subjected to such horror, especially within a hospital. Meanwhile, 28 premature Palestinian babies from Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, which was raided by Israeli forces last week, were transported to Egypt for treatment. The Israeli military campaign was launched in response to a cross-border attack by Hamas gunmen, resulting in the deaths of at least 1,200 people and the hostage-taking of 240 others. The health ministry in Gaza has reported that at least 13,000 people have been killed in the territory in the six weeks since the attack. The hospital in question is funded by Indonesia and is located about 240m away from several tanks stationed on a road. The Palestinian news agency reported that snipers on rooftops were preventing ambulances from reaching the hospital. The health ministry stated that an Israeli shell hit the second floor of the hospital, resulting in the deaths of 12 patients and accompanying individuals, with dozens more injured. The IDF responded by stating that terrorists opened fire from within the hospital and that they targeted the specific source of enemy fire, with no shells fired towards the hospital itself. The IDF also released videos from Al-Shifa Hospital, claiming that it housed a large underground Hamas command center. The WHO stated that it was finalizing plans to evacuate around 250-260 seriously injured patients from Al-Shifa. Médecins Sans Frontières also reported that their clinic in Gaza City came under fire, putting the staff and patients in danger.
